Mayor's Message
Welcome to Maywood's website!

It is a tongue-and-cheek reference that Maywood is often referred to as “Mayberry”. It’s fun to conjure up the image of the 1950s small-town era, but it is also a title that Maywoodians are proud of and embrace.
Our town is surrounded by some of the busiest highways and largest shopping malls in the nation and we are a mere 10 miles from New York City, yet Maywood remains a small town with a close-knit community.

Town events such as the annual Fourth of July Fireworks and Parade, Maywood Fall Festival, the arrival of Santa Claus on Pleasant Avenue, or coming together to help people in need as we did during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, show what a wonderful community we have - where neighbors care about and respect each other.

Our small town has one of the best public libraries in the region, a fantastic youth sports and recreation program and a beautifully restored historic train station musuem along Maywood Avenue. Maywood has a small town feel that you just can't find anywhere else in Bergen County.

We also have the best small town downtown retail districts in the County along Pleasant Avenue – which I like to refer to as our “main street on a side street.” Our main shopping district, Pleasant Avenue, truly lives up to its name! There is nothing like it around. Our town also has some of the best small businesses in the region along Passaic Street, Maywood Avenue, Spring Valley Avenue and Essex Street. Many of our local businesses are owned and operated by Maywood residents.

I encourage everyone to come to Maywood and see for yourself what a wonderful town it is. Be sure to shop our local stores and restaurants.
